Mine are in the “won’t touch them” category so I’m working different angles to get them tastes of it before they’re willing to eat something like a roasted sweet potato wedge.⠀

Think about your little one’s favorites and see how you can try something similar!⠀
⠀
Loves crunchy snacks? Try sweet potato chips (the ones that are just sweet potatoes, oil, and salt)⠀
⠀
Loves fries? Try sweet potato fries in their favorite fry shape, and serve along with ketchup or ranch or whatever they like!⠀

Thinks dipping is fun? Pair a favorite snack (these are honey grahams from @safeandfair but they’re temporarily sold out 😩) with a dip! This dip I made—⠀

1/2 sweet potato, roasted til soft⠀
1 ripe banana ⠀
2 tsp ground flax⠀
2-3 tsp milk (any kind)⠀
Tiny pinch salt⠀
⠀
Add all ingredients to food processor and whip until smooth and creamy. Omit the flax if they’ll freak out about tiny brown specks!⠀

Playing with food is a great low pressure way to get acquainted with and a little more comfortable with a new food. And to buy you a few minutes of peace in the kitchen. 😅⠀

HOW-TO:⠀
⠀
I put half a can of beans in one bowl, and gave my son (4) the food pick (gifted from @nutridashe) and my daughter (2) the teaspoon and told them to transfer the beans from that bowl to the green bowl.⠀
⠀
For an older kiddo you can give them a specific task like, “put 10 beans in the bowl” or “you have 30 seconds to get as many as you can over...ready, go!” But for a young toddler simply transferring is great.⠀

Moms who have worked with me for help with their picky eaters know that a low pressure environment can be REALLY helpful when exploring new foods.⠀
⠀
And our immediate goal is to increase comfort and familiarity, NOT to “make” them eat the food.⠀
⠀

Sometimes it feels easier in the moment to give in to whatever they’re asking — even if it’s not at all what you want to do or what you think is best for them.⠀
⠀
And when they’re on the verge of a tantrum and you KNOW you can avoid it by giving them what they want, it can be an attractive solution!⠀
⠀
Although often times, the tantrum happens either way, it just gets slightly delayed.⠀
⠀
When your little one is trying to get you to make something you weren’t planning on, it is totally appropriate for you to say no!⠀
⠀
✔️ It’s important to set boundaries and teach them both appropriate behavior and what they can reasonably expect from you⠀
⠀
✔️ Toddlers thrive on routine and predictability and having clear rules in place- even when they make you think otherwise⠀
⠀
✔️ YOU. ARE. NOT. A. SHORT. ORDER. COOK.⠀
⠀
✔️ you are the parent- they are the 2 year old with zero life experience or knowledge about nutrition. You get to decide what is best when you’re serving meals. (Yes you can take their preferences into account and give choice but ultimately it’s up to you.)⠀

Instagram post 17859635230618172 Did you know a simple calculation can help you know exactly how much protein your toddler needs as a minimum daily amount?⠀
⠀
Simply take their weight in pounds and divide by 2.  The number you get is the grams of protein they need daily for their body to get the proper building blocks for growth.⠀
⠀
This could be covered with:⠀
⠀
2 cups milk (16g)⠀
2 ounces of chicken (16 g)⠀
2 eggs (12g)⠀
Peanut butter sandwich on whole wheat (15g)⠀
⠀
This amount won’t necessarily cover all their iron needs though, especially if they don’t eat much (or any) meat.⠀
⠀
