Why I love this frozen yogurt recipe
We’ve done the frozen banana one-ingredient “nice cream” thing, but I wanted something more filling. Bananas ARE great, but when we add yogurt, we also get protein, calcium, and some filling fat, too!
You only need THREE ingredients, and you may already have them on hand. It’s delicious, kid-friendly, and fun to make. I guarantee your kids will be asking for this healthy homemade frozen yogurt weekly! Let me know if you give it a try!
Homemade Banana Frozen Yogurt
A little bit of plain yogurt, the bananas you stuck in the freezer a few weeks ago before they went bad, a squirt of honey, and you’re on your way to the most delicious frozen treat.
My kids love adding some sprinkles, too! I like these from Whole Foods that have no artificial colors.
Ingredients Needed
All you need is:
4-5 bananas, sliced and frozen
3/4 cup plain whole milk yogurt (regular not Greek)
2 Tbsp honey
Optional:
You can always top your frozen yogurt with sprinkles or chocolate chips when it’s done to make it feel a little more like ice cream!
How to make this recipe
- Freeze the sliced bananas for a few hours or overnight.
- The next day, add all 3 ingredients to a food processor and let it run until the bananas are perfectly smooth and creamy! (I had to stop it a few times and break up the bananas because they clumped together a bit.)
- Serve right away or freeze for 2-3 hours for a firmer texture.
- Scoop and enjoy your homemade frozen yogurt! (This made about 4 servings for us.)
Recipe FAQs
Could I make this with another fruit?
Yes, but it will likely be less creamy and more icy. I would recommend adding another fruit along with the banana if you want a different flavor. For example, you might use one less banana and add a handful of frozen strawberries or mango in its place!
Can I use Greek yogurt?
Yes, you can! I just prefer regular style yogurt in this recipe because the taste is a little more mild. If you don’t mind the tartness of plain Greek yogurt or are looking for extra protein, you definitely can sub it in here!
Can I use flavored yogurt?
Yep! Vanilla would be great, in my opinion. I would just reduce or omit the honey if you’re using a sweetened yogurt.
Can I use something besides honey?
If you’re making this and want your baby under 1 to taste it, use 100% maple syrup instead of honey. Or if you just don’t have honey or don’t want it, you can use maple syrup, too!
Expert Tips
You can add a little bit of protein powder to the mix (plain or vanilla would work!) if you want to! I’ve tried it with about 2 tbsp of my favorite collagen added in.
