Before I had kids, I could remember things. LOTS of things.
But now…I can remember the lyrics to every popular song from the year 2000, but what time do I need to pick up my kids today? I need the calendar. What do I need at the grocery store? Need my list. How long do I cook this recipe I make every single week? Gotta check.
So even though hard boiled eggs are one of the most basic things you could make, I find that I need to check my notes app EVERY SINGLE TIME I do it.
But the real reason I come to you with this hard boiled egg recipe is that I made a huge discovery.
I have officially perfected the hard boiled egg, and the secret is: my air fryer.
Air frying hard boiled eggs gives you control over exactly how long you cook them to get that perfect yolk. And it makes it so you can replicate your perfect hard boiled egg every time with almost no effort!
Not to mention, there is absolutely no prep time wasted boiling water. It’s quick and easy enough that you could make these on a school morning!

Why I love this specific hard boiled egg recipe
I love hard boiled eggs because they’re so easy and so versatile. And now, it’s as easy as pressing a button to get the perfect hard boiled eggs every time.
They’re a great first food for babies.
They’re a great, protein-packed lunch component or after school snack for toddlers and kids. And they’re one of my favorite snacks, meals-on-the-go, and salad toppers!
Ingredients Needed
All you need is:
- 6-8 large eggs
How to make this recipe
- Preheat the air fryer to 250 degrees F for about 1-2 minutes. (On my particular model, I tap the button that says “roast” and it will go down to 250 degrees.)
- Add as many eggs as you’d like in a single layer in the air fryer. Leave a little space so they’re not too crowded.
- Cook for 14-17 minutes depending on desired doneness (this may also vary with your particular air fryer model).
- Remove immediately when done cooking and submerge in an ice bath (cold water and ice cubes) for 5-10 minutes.
- Peel and enjoy!
- To refrigerate: Store in refrigerator, unpeeled, within 2 hours of cooking. Eggs will keep for up to 7 days.
Recipe FAQs
What if my air fryer doesn’t go down to 250 degrees F?
First, I’d double check the manual. On mine I have to tap the button that says “roast” and it will go down to 250 degrees F. If it only goes down to 275 F or 280 F, I would try shortening the cooking time by 1-3 minutes.
How long do you cook yours for?
I do mine at 14 minutes in my air fryer because I like the inside of the yolk to be just a little soft. I would recommend testing 2 eggs the first time you try this and take one out at 14 minutes and one at 17 minutes, and you can see what exact timing is best for you.
What else can I do with hard boiled eggs?
Hard boiled eggs keep pretty well in the refrigerator for up to a week (store in these reusable silicone bags). I love to eat them just as they are, but you can also do a few other things with them!
For babies, I like to mash them up and an egg salad with some Greek yogurt and spices (hold the salt!). I also pop them in my kids lunches for the week, and I often slice them up and throw them on top of my salads for more filling weekday lunches.
Expert Tips
To peel a hard boiled egg easily, crack the shell all over by tapping the egg on the counter, then roll the egg gently to loosen the shell. Begin peeling at the large end. Make sure to get underneath the thin membrane to peel the shell more easily.
Eggs that are a little older will peel more easily than fresh eggs that you just bought. And peeling is easiest when they’re warm. It’s a little harder when you pull them out of the fridge, but still very do-able.
I like to top mine with salt and pepper or everything bagel seasoning!
